Family HealthCare Network Volunteers Celebrate AmeriCorps Week

Each year during AmeriCorps Week, organizations across the U.S. pause to recognize the commitment of AmeriCorps members by acknowledging the extraordinary impact AmeriCorps makes across our nation.

Visalia, CA – Each year during AmeriCorps Week, organizations across the U.S. pause to recognize the commitment of AmeriCorps members by acknowledging the extraordinary impact AmeriCorps makes across our nation. As part of what has become an annual tradition, Family HealthCare Network’s (FHCN) Community HealthCorps/AmeriCorps members will once again recognize the observance locally with a weeklong community service initiative. This year, the national week of recognition kicked-off Monday, March 9, 2015 and will continue through Friday, March 13, 2015.

FHCN’s group of 12 Community HealthCorps/AmeriCorps members have partnered with several local agencies for the week of community service, including Habitat for Humanity of Tulare County, The Bethlehem Center, and Self-Help Enterprises. Beginning Tuesday, March 10th, FHCN’s Community HealthCorps/AmeriCorps members worked with Habitat for Humanity to remodel a local family’s home in Tulare. Later in the week, the members will serve breakfast at The Bethlehem Center in Visalia, and on Friday, the group will join Self-Help Enterprises in Goshen by assisting low-income families with painting, cleaning, and other home construction projects.

Committed to a one-year term of service, 12 AmeriCorps members from the national Community HealthCorps program volunteer at FHCN health centers annually and are trained on a variety of topics and strategies focused on reaching medically underserved communities. Founded in 1995 by the National Association of Community Health Centers, Community HealthCorps is the largest health-focused, national AmeriCorps program, promoting health care for America’s underserved, while developing tomorrow’s health care workforce. Family HealthCare Network has participated in the program since 2007.
