Visalia, CA. – Family HealthCare Network (FHCN) is pleased to announce community advocate Donna Johnson as the recipient of the Family HealthCare Network 2016-2017 Anita de la Vega Community Service Award. Donna was awarded this honor for her achievements and the impact of her services made in her community.
Donna, a retired grandmother, was nominated for her advocacy efforts for families living through the devastating effects of the California drought. Donna has been described as the “water angel” by her community in East Porterville as she became the voice and hope for many families in her community. She was selected as the recipient of the Anita de la Vega Community Service Award because of her relentless efforts to bring aid to those affected by the drought, and her drive and compassion to improve the quality of life of her community.
The Anita de la Vega Community Service Award was established by Family HealthCare Network’s Board of Directors in 2010 in memory of Anita de la Vega, a founding clinician of Family HealthCare Network. Anita served as a provider and advocate of the patients served by Family HealthCare Network for 30 years. She felt it was a privilege to practice medicine in underserved communities, but that it also was a responsibility to advocate for those communities.
Family HealthCare Network established the Community Service Award to honor local residents, who like Anita de la Vega, have dedicated their lives to serving the underserved communities in Tulare County to ensure they have access to the resources and services they need.
