2011 Anita de la Vega Community Service Award - Thursday, October 06, 2011

Tulare County organization seeks nominations for 2nd annual community service award
Visalia, CA – Dedication, passion and lifetime commitment to the local community are characteristics that deserve to be acknowledged. Individuals have the power to transform our community and Family HealthCare Network would like to recognize them for their service. Nominations are now being accepted for the second annual Anita de la Vega Community Service Award. The award was established in 2010 in memory of Anita de la Vega, a founding clinician at Family HealthCare Network, who dedicated her career to underserved populations in Tulare County over the span of a thirty year career with the organization. She cared for generations of families, was actively involved with several community organizations, and served as an inspiration to colleagues and patients alike.

In the spirit of service to its communities, Family HealthCare Network honors a recipient each year who has dedicated significant time and effort to ensure that all Tulare County community members have access to services resources to better their lives. In 2010 Carolyn Rose, Executive Director of CSET, was recognized with the inaugural Anita de la Vega Community Service Award. Rose demonstrated 28 years of dedicated service to the greater community. This year’s recipient will be honored at the 2011 Black & White Ball, Family HealthCare Network’s annual gala, on December 3rd at the Visalia Convention Center.

Nominees should be mission-driven individuals who serve as role models and mentors for women in Tulare County. Like the award’s namesake, nominated individuals should feel that it is a privilege and responsibility to impact the well-being of underserved populations and to act as an advocate for unheard voices. Family HealthCare Network asks that nominees have served the area for at least five years.

Please nominate a deserving individual by contacting Janet Paine at jpaine@fhcn.org or by completing a nomination form found in the link below. Thank you for taking the time to recognize peers for their service to Tulare County. Deadline for 2011 nomination forms is 5:00 p.m., Friday, November 4.

You can download the nomination form here.

Family HealthCare Welcomes Dr. Ruby Payne - Tuesday, February 08, 2011

Family HealthCare Network hosted a very special conference, featuring Dr. Ruby Payne, who has written many books about how to serve the impoverished, including “Bridges out of Poverty”.   Dr. Payne was contracted by Family HealthCare Network to provide a three hour seminar on January 7, 2011 to over 200 community partners.   If you are looking to counter poverty or its impact on people and businesses in your community, Bridges Out of Poverty solutions give you the structures, ideas, and concrete tools a community needs to prevent, reduce, and alleviate poverty.  Bridges Out of Poverty is a book and an approach that helps employers, community organizations, social-service agencies, and individuals address poverty in a comprehensive way.  People from all economic classes come together to improve job retention rates, build resources, improve outcomes, and support those who are moving out of poverty.   If you are interested in knowing more about Dr. Payne, you can access her website at  http://www.ahaprocess.com/About_Us/History.html and view the vignettes offered free there.

FOOD & PRESENTS PROVIDED TO 92 FAMILIES - Thursday, December 23, 2010

Family HealthCare Network helped 92 families this year through its Needy Family Fund. Established as the Sunshine Fund many years ago, a small group of employees at Family HealthCare Network (FHCN) decided to put some money in a fund to be used for employees when they became ill or encountered a personal hardship.   Then an employee (Anita de la Vega some say) had the idea that rather than have the traditional gift exchange among co-workers at Christmas employees would be encouraged to purchase a gift for a family in need.   The ideas continued to grow and the Needy Family Fund was soon developed. This year the Needy Family Fund was renamed to the Anita Fund after long time founding clinician of Family HealthCare Network Anita de la Vega.  Each year Family HealthCare Network (FHCN) patients and their families are nominated by FHCN staff and recommended to receive a food basket and toys for the holiday. Criteria have been established in order to select different families each year to receive a holiday basket of cheer. Throughout the year money is raised to help patients Network wide, throughout Tulare and Kings County.
